Diagnosis and therapy of mitochondrial disorders

Mitocon was founded in 2007 by a group of parents of children affected by mitochondrial diseases with the aim of improving the quality of life of patients and their families and promoting the search for a cure, through the sharing of knowledge and information on these serious pathologies.

Over the years, Mitocon has become the most important gathering point in Italy among patients suffering from mitochondrial diseases and between patients and the scientific community. This organisation has been an active promoter in the creation of a network of patients, doctors and researchers at an international level, contributing to the foundation of International Mito Patients – IMP, the international federation of associations of people with mitochondrial diseases in the world.

In the 9th National Conference on Mitochondrial diseases, Dr Caterina Garone, head of the Academy’s Wamaze Project for patients’ and doctors’ wellbeing through magic, will deliver a lecture on re-designing diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to mitochondrial disorders with magic tools! A magic theraoy intervention will be delivered by the Wamaze team, represented by Dr Antonia Symeonidou, to engage patients, their families and doctors in a fantascientific exploration of the patients’ magical powers!
